September shows…

I am excited to be a first time vendor at Lockwood’s 10th Annual Fall Festival

Saturday, September 9   9-5

I have been busy creating one of a kind raku-fired pottery and unique jewelry for them and the second Parkside Artisan Market

Sunday, September 17

For those unfamiliar with raku pottery:

Each one-of-a-kind piece is wheel thrown or handmade, bisque fired, and decorated with metallic glazes. While the pot is still very hot, it is removed carefully from the kiln and placed in a can full of paper, straw, or leaves. The material catches fire and the can is closed tightly to begin the de-oxidation process.  Smoke and fire work together to create a unique, one of a kind piece of ceramic art.   This unique pottery is decorative only and should not be used with food or liquids.

Photos below show part of the process- because my kilns are small, I am only able to fire a few pieces in each load.
