Pussy willows and pottery…
The tiny window has opened for collecting pussy willow branches! Spent a refreshing day cleaning my perennial gardens and raking the leftover leaves out from under their numerous hiding places. The yard is still a bit soft from our generous Buffalo snow, thankfully melted.
The mud under my feet reminded me how behind I am on throwing pottery. I have lots of new ideas for the bags of raku clay in my basement- just need to set aside time to create!
Sometimes wish I could clone myself (then I remember my identical twin sister and I are natural clones!) Still not enough hours in the day to play in the mud!
Sixty degrees and late spring festivals- Buffalove Fest at the Buffalo Zoo!
It’s finally spring in Buffalo!
Consider attending this fun festival benefiting our very own Buffalo Zoo. I will be there on May 29th with my fused glass jewelry and raku pottery- hope to see you there! ~Regina
BuffaLoveFest will take place on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Zoo. This 21 and over event will feature live music from some of Buffalo’s finest bands, beer & wine from a variety of local brands, food trucks, artisans who specialize in Buffalo-themed goods & much more!
Tickets cost $20 in advance and $30 at the door, and include 2 drink tickets.
My Journey
It started reasonably enough with a small manual kiln I found on eBay for a few hundred bucks. I thought it would be nice to have a low maintenance kiln to test low fire glazes and bisque fire raku clay in my sun porch studio. Then I noticed the Ohio-born Vulcan could fuse glass as well. Hmmm, never tried that! Off to YouTube for a few quick lessons!
My little kiln is a trooper and a work horse! I alternate loads between pottery and glass, with an occasional recycled metal thrown in the mix. Every load yields a new lesson…
